Summary
View of 200 block of West Center Street; image shows north side of the street, with the Fashion Stables, established by Lafayette Lewis in 1872; image shows three men standing with a horse at the entrance of Fashion Stables, and a horse-drawn streetcar driven by Nick Bittner; a coal oil street lamp is visible behind the streetcar; the Anaheim Streetcar Company, [Theodore Rimpau, president] operated from January, 1887, until the fall of 1899, and connected the Southern Pacific (located at what became West Broadway and Mable Street) and Santa Fe depots; the streetcars hours of operation were from 7:30 AM until 6:05 PM, and they were especially patronized by women; the novelty wore off and operational expenses began to exceed revenue; service was discontinued in 1899 and the tracks were removed in 1901; signage on facade of stables reads "FASHION / LIVERY & FEED / STABLES"
