- Summary
- "One of the greatest masters of music, Beethoven is particularly admired for his orchestral works, including symphonies and concertos plus sonatas and chamber music. His early work until 1802, shows a progressive mastery of the high classical style of Haydn and Mozart. A general growth in the proportions and rhetorical power of Beethoven's works in the period 1798-1802 culminates in the highly dramatic compositions that mark the birth of Romanticism in music. The late period, during which he grew deaf, marked a change from dramatic to introspective-inspired music. The highly expressive music Beethoven produced, infused with a sense of his own struggles to overcome adversity, for centuries has inspired composers like Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Wagner."--Back of container
