- Summary
- "On October 7, 1988, a young gay man was discovered bound to a fence outside Laramie, Wyoming, savagely beaten and left to die in a shocking act of hate. Matthew Shepard's death became a national symbol of intolerance, but for the people of the town, the event was deeply personal. In the aftermath, Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project went to Laramie and conducted more than 200 interviews with its people. From the transcripts, the playwrights constructed an extraordinary chronicle of life there after the murder. The Laramie Project has become both a modern classic--one of the most-performed theater pieces in America--and a powerful tool of activism. Now, in this expanded edition, The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later adds an essential coda to the original work, revisiting the town a decade after the tragedy to find a community grappling with its legacy and place in history. The two plays comprise a deeply moving theatrical cycle that explores the depths to which humanity can sink--and the heights of compassion to which we can rise"-- provided by publisher
